What does a county constable do?

As the chief process server of the justice court, a Constable carries out statewide criminal summons and countywide civil summons, supplies security officers for court, and is in charge of gathering money and confiscating property ordered by the court. As a licensed peace officer, a Constable has similar duties as Sheriffs, like enforcing traffic regulations, imposing criminal laws, dealing with orders of eviction, transporting prisoners, executing protection from abuse orders, delivering mental health warrants, serving arrest warrants, and managing criminal investigations. Constables are able to designate deputy constables and are responsible for their official acts. Other responsibilities of Constables include recording financial transactions of his office, keeping a fee book, and collecting payments, with more duties described in chapter 86 of the Local Government Code.
